Child Nutrition
We work with schools, districts and state agencies to expand access to healthy meals for children.
Feed NH Kids.
1 in 6 children in New Hampshire experience food insecurity.
Our Child Nutrition team works to increase access to — and participation in — federal nutrition programs to make sure that children and families have consistent access to nutritious food year-round.
All kids should have access to healthy school meals.
We work to strengthen and expand school meal access through initiatives like Breakfast After the Bell and the School Breakfast Challenge, the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), Medicaid Direct Certification, and connecting children to federal nutrition programs. These approaches create a pathway toward universal school meals — ensuring that students have access to the healthy food they need to learn and thrive.
Why school breakfast?
Students who eat breakfast at school are more likely to succeed.

School meals — like teachers and libraries and textbooks — are key to education. Every student deserves to start the school day nourished, focused, and ready to learn.

When kids eat breakfast at school, they have improved attendance, fewer behavioral challenges, and have higher test scores and fewer visits to the school nurse.

Join the School Breakfast Challenge!
The School Breakfast Challenge is a collaborative initiative to make sure students start their day with a healthy school breakfast. We work with schools to implement Breakfast after the Bell, an evidence-based approach that makes breakfast a normal, seamless part of the school day.
